Boot Camp!

by TastesSpicy

Can you believe I signed up for a boot camp at my gym? Holly Hannah! I got the first day out of the way. The first day is always the toughest as you never know what to expect or how hard the work out will be.

We started out with a half a mile jog, followed by step-ups onto a park bench! Very high, especially with my short legs. Then squats. That surely got our heart rates up. Then we did push-ups followed by crunches. That was one set, so we had to repeat that 2 times.

For the next set we did high jumps while running, then reverse with the back of the legs and then the inner thighs. That was another set.

Then we had to jog back to the gym. It was for 45 minutes. Everything was done outdoors using your body weight, proving you really don’t need a gym membership to be active.

So I will be doing 16 sessions of this spread over 8 weeks. Wish me luck!

Onto what I cooked this week. Now that the hard part of being healthy is out of the way…I made this week Shrimp Fried Rice and Fried Chicken Wings.

The Fried Rice is made the traditional way we make it in Trinidad. Fried Rice is mostly made on a Sunday or for special occasions, back home as this is the day a huge lunch is prepared. We look forward to Sunday lunch, after church or just before the start of a really good Indian move! God help us is current (electricity) goes that day!

I am constantly on the look out for a really good Fried Chicken Wings recipe. This is just one version of many that I have tested. It did come out the best thus far. The simple breading of the flour with baking powder was perfect.

For Fathers day I shall be making a Porchetta!
