Meal Prep

by TastesSpicy

I am once again part of a new team challenge at my boot camp, no surprise there! Part of the challenge this time around is food prepping weekly. Food prepping is a major challenge for me as I like to eat my food freshly cooked. And lets admit it, food prepping a week in advance is a lot of work. I mean you have to have a whole day just to prep everything, your house gets very hot from the stove or oven running all day and who has all that free space in their fridge for storing a weeks worth of cooked food?

Since I am not one to give up easily…I accepted this strenuous challenge and set about to do my first week of meal prep.

I am sharing some techniques and short cuts I have learned while doing my first week. Most of the recipes I used for my meal prep are already on my blog. I only did lunches for a week and I will make dinner myself when I get home. So I still get a fresh, hot meal.

Tip 1. Very important, plan out your menu for the week. Write down what you want to eat for lunch each day.

Tip 2. Write down a grocery list of the items you will need. To reduce the cost of this, try to get at least two meals that uses similar ingredients.

Tip 3. EAT BEFORE YOUR GROCERY SHOP!!!

Tip 4. When you get your grocery home, try to place each recipe items in a group so they are easy to find when you are ready to use it.

Tip 5. If you are making Veggies, try peeling, chopping and roasting them all at the same time to save on time.

Tip 6. Preseason all your meats at the same time and allow it to marinate while you prep your veggies.

Tip 7. Get microwave and dishwasher safe topper ware with lids, so that you can package each meal in advance. This way you grab and go!

Tip 8. Play music or catch up on Game of Thrones while you chop all those veggies! It helps take your mind off of how long it takes.

Tip 9. Try to use different variations of spices and seasoning salts on your meats or veggies. Try changing up the meats and the veggies weekly so you don’t get bored.

Here are some pictures I took this weekend while I did my meal prep.

I Prepared three different meats. The first is a Jerk Pork that I baked in the oven at 250 degrees for 5 hours.

The second is a Greek Lemon Chicken that I paired with sweet potatoes and Brussels sprout.

And the last is a simple Seasoned chicken thighs that I paired with sausages and apples with green beans and asparagus.

And last but not least…Check out this Saffron Seafood Risotto I did over the weekend!
