Recipe
2 cups bread flour
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 tablespoon powdered milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder
1/2 teaspoon instant yeast
1 egg
2 tablespoons softened butter
1/2 cup of luke warm water
5 tablespoons Nutella
1 cup of vegetable oil
1 cup of granulated sugar
Directions
To the bowl of a stand mixer, add the flour, sugar, yeast, salt, powdered milk, butter and egg.
Set the mixer to speed 2 and mix. Slowly add in the water. Continue to mix until the dough has pulled away from the sides of the bowl.
The dough should be soft and sticky, but not sticking to your fingers.
Cover the dough with a tea towel and leave to rise for an hour and a half.
After an hour and a half, turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough out to about a 1/2 inch thickness.
Using a cookie cutter cut the circles out and place it on a cookie sheet, lined with parchment paper. Whatever is left of the dough, roll back into a ball and roll out again and keep cutting until all your dough is gone.
Cover the small cut outs and leave to rest for another hour. The dough should double in size.
Heat the oil in a small frying pan to 350 degrees.
Once the oil is heated, add in a few of the donuts at a time to fry.
It will float and start to brown, once it is brown on one side, flip to the other side.
Remove from the oil and place it in a bowl with the sugar. Turn the donuts a few times to make sure it is coated all over with the sugar.
If you are filling your donuts with a filling, like I am with Nutella, pace the Nutella in a piping bag and insert the tip into the top of the donut and fill each one.
Try not to eat all of them in one sitting! And you can fill these with any filling, jam, whip cream, cream cheese…
