1 pound of ground turkey meat
1 can of chopped jalapenos
1 whole white onion
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon ground coriander
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1 teaspoon of vegetable oil
Juice of 1 lime
1 packet of hot and spicy Taco seasoning mix
1 can of red kidney beans
1/2 cup of water
Condiments
Shredded lettuce
fresh chopped jalapenos
1 tomatoe cubed
1 cup of shredded cheese of your
choice
1/2 of a red onion chopped finely
taco shells or tortillas
Directions
Heat a large frying pan on the stove top on medium heat. Add a teaspoon of oil to your frying pan
Drain your jalapenos and chop your onions.
Add the cumin seeds to the oil and let this fry for about a minute. It will start to smell fragrant and sputter.
Add the onions and jalapenos to the pan now. Let the onions sweat and become translucent.
Now add the ground turkey to the mixture in the pan.
Add your dry spices: Chili powder, ground cumin, ground coriander and garlic salt.
Add the juice of 1 lime to the pot.
Start breaking up your meat to incorporate your spices and getting the meat to brown.
Wash and drain your kidney beans under cold running water.
After your meat has cooked a little add the beans.
Add your taco seasoning and mix.
At this point I added 1/2 cup of water so that the meat does not dry out and it has time to cook fully.
This will cook for about 15 minutes. When the water has dried out turn off the stove. Notice I did not use any salt or black pepper in this recipe.
That is because the Taco seasoning has salt and some spiciness to it.
Now since it is Taco’s I am making I must have condiments to go with it. I use shredded lettuce, chopped jalapeño, diced tomatoes,
and finely chopped red onions.
You can use any shell to fill your taco meat in. I love buying the small tortillas and frying those in oil until it is slightly crispy.
