Recipe
1 pound of grass fed ground beef
1/2 pound of ground spicy Italian sausage
1 onion, chopped into cubes
4 red fresno chilis, deseeded and chopped into small cubes
2 tablespoons of tomato paste
2 stalks of green onions, chopped
6 hamburger buns
For the sauce:
1 8-ounce can of tomato sauce
1/4 cup of ketchup
2 tablespoons yellow mustard powder
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
2 teaspoons cayenne pepper (cut this down if you don’t like heat)
1 teaspoon fresh garlic, minced
1/4 cup of brown sugar
1/2 cup of water
1/2 teaspoon salt
Directions
In a small bowl combine the the ingredients for the sauce and mix together. Set aside until ready to use.
Heat a wide skillet on the stove on medium heat. Add the ground beef and Italian sausage.
Using a spoon break up the meat as it cooks. After the meat has been broken down a bit, add in the onions and Fresno peppers. continue to cook until the meat has browned fully.
Add in the tomato paste and cook for another 5 minutes.
Remove the meat from the skillet and set it aside in a bowl. Now drain the extra fat that was released from the meat. make sure you do this otherwise it will float to the top of your sloppy Joes.
Place the skillet back on the heat and re-add your meat to it.
Pour in the sauce, stir and cover. let this simmer on low for about 20 minutes. I like to let it cook like this so all the flavors can come together.
After the sauce has reduced, and its looking nice and runny, add in the chopped green onions. Remove from the heat.
Serve over either Brioche or hamburger buns.
