Recipe
Makes 5 hotdog Buns and 4 Burger Buns.
1 package of dry active yeast (.25 ounces)
1/2 cup of flour (all purpose flour)
1 cup of warm water
2 large eggs
3 tablespoons white sugar
3 tablespoons of melted butter
1 1/4 teaspoon salt
3 cups of flour (all purpose flour)
few drops of cooking oil
2 tablespoon milk
2 tablespoon sesame seeds
Directions
This recipe uses a stand mixer with a dough hook.
To the bowl of the stand mixer, add the yeast, with 1/2 cup of flour and the warm water. whisk together, and set aside for about 15 minutes for the yeast to become active.
After 15 minutes the yeast will look frothy, and bubbly. If it is not like that, toss it our and start over.
To the frothy, active yeast, add 1 egg, sugar, melted butter, salt and the 3 cups of flour.
Place the stand mixer on low and mix for 5-6 minutes.
Your dough should be soft and just trying to stick to your fingers. When you touch it with your finger, it should feel sticky but not flour should come on your fingers.
Remove the dough from the bowl and just rub the bowl with the cooking oil, then place the dough back in there and cover with a dish towel and place it in your oven. Of course the oven should be in the off position.
The dough has to rise for 2 hours. It will double in size.
After it has risen, roll the dough out into a 1 inch thick rectangular shape. Then using a knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough into 9-10 pieces.
You can make all hotdog buns or all burger buns.
I did mine in both. Shape each piece of dough into the shape you want.
If you are making hotdog buns after you form it into shape, use a knife and make a shallow cut down the middle.
Place the rolled out dough, 1/2 apart on a baking sheet with a silicone pad or buttered surface.
Cover again and allow to rest 1 hour.
Heat the oven to 375 degrees.
Whisk together the other egg and milk. Using a brush, gently brush each bun with the egg wash. Sprinkle on the sesame seeds and place in the oven.
Mine took 15 minutes. Remove when the tops are golden brown.
Serve with your favorite hotdog or burger!
