RECIPE INDEX
Ingredients

2 packages (12 OZ) of store bought greens -
beans, cleaned and ends trimmed.
1 8OZ package of button mushrooms.
Cleaned and sliced.
2 cups half and half milk
2 cups of low sodium chicken broth
4 think cut slices of original bacon, chopped
4 cloves of finely grated garlic
1 knob of freshly grated ginger
1 red jalalepeno crushed (optional)
1 whole white onion cubed
1 tablespoon of flour
2 stalks of green onions chopped
2 cups of freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1 can of French fried onions (or whatever
brand your local store sells)
salt and black pepper to taste
Heat a deep, wide frying pan on the stove top. Add
your chopped bacon, let this fry to crispiness.
Because the bacon is going to render its own grease,
no cooking oil is required. After you bacon is crispy,
add in your onions and allow this to fry for a minute.
After a minute add in your ginger, garlic and crushed red
Jalapeño and allow this to fry for another 30 seconds until
fragrant.
While this magic is happening, steam
your green beans per directions on the
bag. You can pop it directly in the oven.
Add in your chopped green onions and stir.
My sliced button mushrooms.
Add in your sliced mushrooms. Let this cook for
at least 5 minutes so that the flavors marinate
together. I am pretty sure your kitchen is smelling
yummy now!
I know you are thinking I can just throw this
mixture on top of a nice juice steak!
Pre-heat your oven at this point to 375F.
Add in your flour and stir. The flour is
the thickening agent to make it creamy.
Give the flour time to cook off or else
you will taste it in your sauce which we
do not want. Keep stirring occasionally
After the flour and mushroom mixture
has been cooking for 5 minutes, add in
your chicken broth and you half and
half milk.
Let this cook until your mixture starts to just thicken. We still
want it semi runny...as we still have to add our cheese. After
about 6-7 minutes on a medium flame it should start to just
thicken.
Of the 2 cups of cheese you are going to add the
1 cup of Parmesan cheese and turn off the
stove. Mix the cheese in so that it melts and
becomes gooey!
Now we are going to add in our steamed green
beans, salt and black pepper. And stir!
Please taste your mixture and your beans at this
point. If it needs more seasoning go for it...add a
little this, a little that.
Place everything in your baking pan. Whatever size you
have. I used an 8 x 8 pan. Top with the rest of your
cheese. If you like lots of cheese...go crazy and add
more. Bake for 15 minutes. Pull out of the oven and top
with your fried onions and bake for an additional 5
minutes.
Walla! You should have a yummy green bean casserole
to waw your guests!
Green beans Casserole
Green beans casserole Yum!
Okay I will admit the only reason why this recipe even caught my eye is because the entire recipe is from scratch including
the cream of mushroom sauce/soup. For our thanksgiving dinner my sister is usually the one delegated to make the greens
beans casserole. But this year I decided to take a stab at it myself. Of course she was happy to relinquish this task to me
as it was one less thing on her list to do.
We actually had thanksgiving dinner at her home this year, but somehow I ended up making the scalloped potatoes, the
green beans casserole, the cornbread stuffing/dressing and the Turkey!
But she did have the after dinner cleanup!
